Finding a domain name and web hosting provider
To set up a self-hosted website you need two things to purchase
Domain name-This will be your website address where people can find you over the internet. This a unique address. For example, Facebook’s domain name is www.facebook.com.Your new blog domain name will be www.YourBlogName.com.You will choose what’s going to be behind YourBlogName. The cost of a domain name is usually $15/year.But if you follow up this article links you will be able to get a one for much cheaper.
Web hosting-This will be the storehouse/hard drive where all the images and content, themes plugins of your website are stored. This will be 24/7 login activated storage where users from all ower the world can view data. They have to use your domain name as the address to visit your website.Without Hosting you will be unable to use your domain.Think of it as a computer hard drive that stores all your content on your blog (images, blog posts and so on). The cost of web hosting is usually somewhere between $2-5 per month.
Where should I get my domain name and hosting?
There is huge competition with the hosting and domain name service providers, which is a good thing. This competition is even high within the top companies. So in this article we will be using Hostgator service provider to set up our site.
When it comes to hosting, there are only two things to consider.
- Page load speed-The average amount of time in seconds it takes to load your blog.
- Uptime-Your site should be live for 24/7.You should go for a 100% uptime. 99.9% is not enough as your site is down for 42 minutes per month.
HostGator is one of the best pick for beginners. It has great performance.
Step 2: Choose a domain name and host For Your Blog

This discount should apply automatically when you click on the link.
So no need of searching coupon codes.Enjoy!!!!!!
2. Pick a Domain name for your blog
If you have already purchased a domain name click on”I already own this domain”
and enter your domain name. And continue from Step 3
How do I choose a good domain name?
You don’t have to bother about choosing the proper domain. It can be always changed later. With some good content and hard work, you can make your domain rank well.
But be sure to choose a domain name that is..
Easy To remember-Make sure you chose a domain that is easy to spell.Don’t try to go with a long name full of dashes. Most famous websites and blogs use short and sweet easy to remember names. Facebook.com, twitter.com, wpbeginner.com, Techcrunch.com.A site like “www.best-tech-guides-in-the-world.com” won’t ever stick in someone’s head. But a site like HackerNews.com or techgeeks.com can easily remember.
You will see that these websites stick on the reader’s mind.Easy to search back and visit the site again.
Basic Tips For a Good Domain
Unique and Descriptive-Make sure that your site should be a unique one.And from the day one, you should start building your brand. So You want a name that reflects who you are and what you care about. Be creative and build an identity you’re excited about!
Trustworthy-Trustworthiness is another issue that you should consider. When buying a domain try to use domain extensions like “.com“, “.Org“, “.net“. Most of the time .com is the extension that most people think about
Avoid Extensions like “.rocks” or “.biz” as these are less commonly used, tougher to remember and not as trusted.
If you get rid of above three mistakes then the rest is in your hands to do some SEO and get more traffic
You can also read these two articles to know how to increase your website visitors using WordPress plugin YoastSEO
Type the domain name you want to use in the box, then click “next”. If the name is available, you’ll be able to claim it. If it’s not available, choose another one.
And if it is not available Hostgator will show you some alternatives you can always choose a one from there.(always stick to the plan )
3.Choosing the hosting plan
You can choose your hosting plan from the drop down list.( Go with the baby plan or Hatching Plan). You can even subscribe a one-month hosting for USD 0.01.See how things are going.
Extend the subscription and also upgrade later if you decide you want more advanced features.
4. Complete your registration
Before proceeding further you should fill in your personal details. This is for the privacy reasons so the transaction can go smoothly.
Website essentials or purchasing additional services are not essential. You can always add them if you need in future. But it is wise to choose “Automated backups” in case you mess something up.This backup can give your website back if you messed it up.But generating a backup manually is not a big deal. You can do that drop a comment if you like to know about getting a backup manually.
After completing the personal details and pay card information you can do the checkout.
5. Log in to your new account and install WordPress blog
Now here is the next most important step
Most of the newbies get confused and stuck in here.
